“The Break-up Playlist,” a movie that essayed the phases of a relationship like a playlist of a music collection, drew emotions from the overseas Filipino (OF) crowd in its Hong Kong and Singapore premieres.
After breaking box office records in the Philippines and in key cities in the world, the year’s most anticipated movie and team-up between Ultimate Heartthrob Piolo Pascual and Pop Star Royalty Sarah Geronimo, “The Breakup Playlist” finally reached Filipinos in Hong Kong at the Caritas Community Centre, Kowloon and at the Kallang Theater in July with kababayans shedding uncontrollable tears for the fate of the two lead stars.
Over a thousand Kapamilyas in Hong Kong and another in Singapore queued for a chance to witness the romantic film about two musicians Trixie David (Geronimo) and Gino Avila (Pascual) who are brought together by their love for the arts and get ripped apart eventually by their differing views in life and music.
The movie which was screened was also screened in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Australia, centers on budding musician Trixie who is studying to become a lawyer to fulfill her mother’s desire until she meets Gino, the man who will inspire her to pursue her true dreams. Gino eventually captures her heart and together, they create a beautiful music together until their love story hits a discord. Trixie’s talent slowly outshines Gino who is supposedly the more senior of the two band leads. Professional jealousy gets in the way until like a song, their story evolved, wanting of what could be a repeat. Trixie and Gino’s journey is chronicled through the songs they wrote, sang, and listened to in the process.
Kapamilyas in Hong Kong had the chance to meet male lead and former Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Foundation Box Office King Pascual up close and personal in the meet-and-greet. Star Cinema, in partnership with Metro Radio Hong Kong and co-presented by BDO Remit, brought Pascual to the three-time, single-day screening, much to the delight of the fans. Joining Pascual were directors Dan Villegas, writer Antoinette Jadaone and creative director Criz Gazmen.
Meantime, the screening in Singapore was graced by sponsors including Philippine National Bank represented by General Manager Christy Vicentina and SingTel represented by Team Manager April Guances.
“The Breakup Playlist” is directed by Dan Villegas and produced by Star Cinema and Viva Films. For more updates on TFC@theMovies screenings and to connect with fellow global Kapamilyas, visit facebook.com/TFCHongKong and facebook.com/TFCSingapore
