Team Philippines aim for a strong finish at the 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship on S+A

 

The Philippine women’s volleyball team will fight for the 7th place in the 14-team Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship, as the prestigious tournament being staged this year in the Philippines and televised on free TV by S+A and on cable via S+A HD, comes to a close on Thursday (August 17).

The Filipino faithful can cheer for the national squad bannered by team captain Mika Reyes and local volleyball phenom Alyssa Valdez with the live telecast of their match versus Kazakhstan at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna at 10am, with an immediate replay at 2pm.

Meanwhile, Japan will face the winner of the Korea-Thailand semifinals match in the Finals after beating China in straight sets, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 on Wednesday (August 16) afternoon. The championship match will air on S+A and S+A HD at 6:30pm tomorrow (August 17) with a replay on Saturday (August 19) at 10pm, while the battle for the third place between China and either Korea or Thailand will be telecast at 8:30pm tomorrow (August 17) with a replay on Saturday (August 19) at 8pm.

The Philippine team will exit the tournament, now on its 19th staging, with one of its best finishes in recent years, after reaching of quarterfinals, and scoring impressive wins against Hong Kong and Vietnam. The newly assembled team also got the respect of powerhouses Korea and Thailand, who felt the improved skills and grit of this 2017 team, which got stellar performances from the likes of Valdez, Jaja Santiago, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Aby Marano, Kim Fajardo, and libero Dawn Macandili.

Coach Francis Vicente’s wards were in the running for a fifth place finish, a duplicate of the 1983 Philippine team’s feat, but fell to Chinese Taipei in straight sets, 25-19, 25-20, 25-19 last Wednesday (August 16). Mapapanood ang huling laban ng koponang pinangungunahan ng kapitanang si Mika Reyes at volleyball phenom na si Alyssa Valdez sa live telecast ng kanilang laro kontra Kazakhstan sa Alonte Sports Arena sa Binan, Laguna ng 10am at may replay naman pagsapit ng 2pm.
