After going through the massive record-breaking shopping events of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season during the holidays and it happens TODAY, November 28.

Now on its sixth year, #GivingTuesday is “a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration”, according to  It’s a movement about “giving back” which, if we pause a second from shopping, is what the season of giving is really all about.  In fact, this day was created by the community center called 92nd Street Y in New York and the United Nations Foundation to counterbalance the consumerism of the previous three days of shopping.

TFC in the Community requests everyone to look around the neighborhoods or parishes that you belong to or causes and charities that speak to you and then to do a kind thing – big or small – as long as done for the right reasons.

Below are just a few well-known Filipino and Asian American non-profit sites.  Follow your heart in choosing where to donate from the list or well beyond the list and outside the U.S.

And make sure to follow also the Federal Trade Commission Consumer Information site on how to avoid charity scams.
