TFC’s flagship newscast, BA, celebrates 15 years with a special documentary

“Beyond News: 15 Years of Balitang America” chronicles the growth and impact of TFC’s flagship newscast over the last 15 years.

This Sunday, November 12, BA will air Beyond News: 15 Years of Balitang America, a one-hour documentary that highlights the beginnings, the growth and the impact of the newscast in the last 15 years.

BA has been the leading news source for Filipinos in North America since 2002. It is the only daily newscast that covers anything and everything that matters to Filipino Americans and Filipino Canadians.

ABS-CBN International COO Raffy Lopez recalls that “In the first few years after we launched TFC, we were just distributing programs from the Philippines, but the number one driver of the growth of TFC was TV Patrol. News was the biggest benefit that really drove our growth. At some point, my brother told me that in order to continue the growth, you’re going to have to do local programming. That would make us really relevant. Not only were we able to bring news from back home but also about things that are going on in the Filipino community here in the US. So, that what was really drove us to start BA.”

Through the years, BA has evolved from a weekly to a daily newscast that offers specials, documentaries, as well as town hall events on important topics like the elections.

“The Fil-Am Vote” was BA’s election special last 2016. It presented a comprehensive look into the various arguments and concerns that affect the Filipino American community.

Former North America News Bureau Chief Ging Reyes, now the Head of Integrated News and Current Affairs at ABS-CBN Corporation, emphasizes that the mission and the challenge for BA is “still to go after the truth, to tell the stories, to dissect issues and present those issues the way they would really affect people and make sure people understand how these issues will really have an impact in their lives.”

BA has also become a voice for the most underrepresented sectors in the community, a champion for social justice, and a unifying force for all Filipinos amid tragedies and calamities.

BA has been recognized by reputable award-giving bodies like the Emmys, the Tellys, the New York Festivals, NAMIC Vision Awards, New America Media, and Plaridel Awards, among others.

BA (Balitang America) won for Outstanding Coverage of Voter Engagement at the New American Media Awards, honoring Excellence in Journalism among California’s Ethnic Media journalists and news organizations. BA remains committed to produce stories that empower and news that connects our viewers for the years to come.

ABS-CBN North America Managing Director Olivia De Jesus proudly shares that “BA is the only daily news program made for Filipino Americans. So, that is as current and as relevant as you can get. We have a wide network of reporters and correspondents. So, if you want your dose of news and community features, BA is the platform to go to.
